Cerian “Seasons” carries with it a clever metaphor for human relationship and how all things will come to pass. The instrumentation is minimalist and lots of whole notes tied to whole notes create an ambient sense of wonder that will strike any listener. Both artistically pure and serious “Seasons” describes heartache, sadness, and a relationship where one persons feelings were neglected by an antagonist who is devoid of empathy. Despite this lack of empathy Cerian has fallen for this person and pleads they give her back her heart in the final moments of the song ending with a large crescendo, the peak dynamic of the song, before smoothly settling into the pianissimo harp playing that dominates the majority of the production.
“Seasons is the much anticipated second single by London-based singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Cerian. It is the second song to be released from Cerian’s upcoming EP Caught in the Dark – a series of songs written in the middle of the night. Her debut single Wasteland has already garnered glowing reviews and BBC Introducing play. A lifelong insomniac, Cerian is almost completely nocturnal, and these profoundly personal songs have grown out of her struggle with both the literal and internal darkness felt in the isolation of the early hours of the morning, when she would stay awake writing until dawn.
Cerian has contributed her soaring soprano vocals to numerous creative collaborations, singing with a range of artists which include U2, Radiohead, Sam Smith, Imogen Heap, Tom Chaplin, Nakhane, Thom Yorke, Charlotte Church, Laura Mvula, Amber Run and London Contemporary Voices. Once she began performing her own work as a solo artist, her vocal dexterity and range – combined with emotive and truthful songwriting – quickly resulted in comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. Her songs have garnered BBC Radio play on multiple occasions, and Cerian has quickly gained a reputation as a captivating live performer from appearances at Glastonbury Festival, Bush Hall and two sold-out headline shows at The National Portrait Gallery. Having just toured Europe, and with a series of shows planned in the UK and a tour of America this year, Cerian is set to continue seducing listeners with her heartfelt, honest and spellbinding music.”
