The Rungs “Grindstone”

The video stylistically to me is a throwback Cartoon Network vibe which manifests itself throughout the entire production.  This comparison is drawn also based from having listened to the Powerpuff soundtrack in heavy rotation in a cross country drive from Boston to Los Angeles.  The Rungs remind me of acts found on SpinART such as Apples In Stereo, shout out Jeff Price.  This band would do well teaming up with a group such as Spoon or The National.  Retro style and EQ’d vocals that sound like they’re being said over the telephone creates a relationship between the listener and vocalist as though you were on the receiving line.  With definable pieces of a well put together song and a well thought out mix including interesting panning choices enhanced by highly entertaining visuals are reasons I had to share this with you.

“The Rungs are a female fronted alt-pop project who blend rock with synth pop. They record and produce everything in their self-made home studio in Brooklyn NY and draw inspiration from the sounds and stories that surround life in Brooklyn NY.”

‘Grindstone’ lyrics:

Send me a letter from the grindstone

Call me when it happens to get lost

Spread the words thinly on the pages

Make sure it’s a mile end to end

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there

Reading all the time gets so exhausted

Meaning fizzles out like a weak flame

Questions all the time can lead to nothing

You look better sleeping anyway

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there

Send me a letter from the grindstone

Call me when it happens to get lost

Spread the words thinly on the pages

So I can read them

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there

Can you see castles in the air?

I’ll race you to the top and meet you there
