This relaxing electronic track takes you on an ethereal journey through atmosphere and space. This sonic art combines busy percussive elements, both organic and washed out guitar, beautiful synthesizers, and distorted drum tracks that create an avant-garde bass line.
“Star Rover is Will Graefe (Okkervil River, Landlady) and Jeremy Gustin (Rubblebucket, Albert Hammond Jr.) — a duo who make complex, instrumental art-rock using just two instruments (guitar and drums), with occasional soft vocals and harmonies. Star Rover’s songs emote space, textures, climates, environments, and emotions, often alternating between delicate, interwoven polyrhythms and hurtling walls of sound. Here’s a clip of them playing the album opener, live.
Gustin name checks Aphex Twin and Tortoise as influences, specifically on tracks like “Snow Moving,” which he wrote after running around NYC in a blizzard. “It’s fun to come up with these ideas as a non-guitar player, and to see [Will] try to figure them out.”
Special guests on the record include visionary string player Rob Moose (of yMusic), Mikey Freedom Hart (of Ex Reyes) on keys, Sarah K. Pedinotti (of Lip Talk) on background vocals, Sam Griffin Owens (Sam Evian) on synths and co-production, Shazahd Ismaily on synths, and Dr. Stuff. The album also features a cover by free-jazz legend Sonny Sharrock.”
