Soft and tender is the music of Dori Valetine drawing influences from pop, jazz, chill-hop, and rock Dori Valentine has a little bit of what you’re looking for. “Preach” is a song that draws heavily from RNB and pop. Featuring ascending seven chords played on a compressed effected electric piano it is jazzy and groovy and wouldn’t be misplaced on a chill-hop playlist as well as an RNB playlist. “Preach” for lyrical content contains romantic and introspective lyrics that are easy to relate to and don’t overplay or detract from the songs mellow timbre. “She Has Her Days” contains indie folk vibes that would be well placed on an Alex Rainbird Youtube or playlist as the song is so relaxing the listeners eyes might start to glaze over as they sink into a charming daydream only made better by Dori Valentines soft sweet vocals. “She Has Her Days” picks up just enough to keep the listener engaged with a full sounding drum kit and a light ambient washed out piano track. Finally the third song available on streaming by Dori Valentine and most recent is “INC.” which somewhat bridges the gap between the two pieces featuring a little bit indie and a little bit chill-hop and containing a well articulated jazzy guitar track. Dori Valentine is an up and comer and we at Its Not Records cannot wait for her next track, be sure to follow her on Spotify and check out the artist biography below.
“Originally from Amarillo, Texas, Dori Valentine is an eighteen-year-old singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Her early influences such as Elton John and Joni Mitchell led her to an introspective and detail-oriented style of writing, touching on themes of volatile relationships, internal revelation, and human nature. Her genre can be described as indie/soul/alternative.
Valentine began playing the violin at the age of six, quickly showing an aptitude for music and rising to first-chair violinist in her youth orchestra. Her songwriting began at the age of thirteen after acquiring an acoustic guitar and spending her eighth-grade winter break in an ‘obsessive writing frenzy’. After signing with a talent agent in 2014, Valentine made a trip to Nashville, Tennessee where she would sign with TenTen Music Publishing in 2015. Valentine attended high school while balancing trips to Music City to write, perform, and develop her artistry.
Dori Valentine is proficient on several instruments including guitar, keys, ukulele, and strings. She is almost always the sole writer on her projects and maintains a strong role in the production of her music.
Valentine has released two self-written and produced singles (entitled ‘Bunk Beds’ and Chlorine’) to Soundcloud. This latest release is a unique set of three singles that showcase her effortless reach into indie pop, alternative, and acoustic singer-songwriter genres.”
