Hot Lips explores existential concepts with their newest song “No Surprises”. The melody and use of suspended chords creates a search of journey and exploration within the harmony that is mirrored within the lyrical content which displays Hot Lips excellent use of prosody. The driving rhythms and epic vocal tracks that are fed just the right amount into the overdrive create an expansive sound that fills this listeners heads with imagery of mountaintops and high rises. The closing line “can you wake me when the world gets better” is an intense way to end a song that has such a dynamic range.
“Hot Lips is an electro-grunge trio comprising of Karli Forgèt (vocals/synth), Alex Black (bass/vocals) and Keith Heppler (drums). After drumming in a multitude of indie rock projects, Forgèt utilized her musicianship and song writing on vocals and synth to form Hot Lips in 2016 with Heppler and Black.
