Cavern Company “Enough”

Uplifting and energetic pop rock that will motivate you through your day “Enough”, by Cavern Company.  “Enough” is a new tune that just came out yesterday and yet sounds both unique and familiar.  The production is familiar with punchy drums, a guitar part that is overflowing with hooks that compliment the vocal melody, and a steady base that makes me not dread the obstacles of everyday life so much.  The lyrics speak to this and I’ve attached them below along with a Spotify link, an artist bio, and artist notes on the song.  Maybe because the lyrics make the artist seem so vulnerable it is why I feel less alone when listening to “Enough” by Cavern Company.  I cannot recommend enough that you check this out if you’re into slightly left of center pop music with lyrics that appeal to your inner humanity.

“Indie alternative tune-smiths, Cavern Company, are like an epiphany induced by sugar high. The band effortlessly combines instant gratification with the kind of real substance that can only come from honesty. With music that is exceptionally well- and deliberately-crafted, the trio achieves a sound that is at once mature and also emotionally resonant. Hooky earworms and catchy melodies convey contemplative reflections by design. The band strives for a timeless and iconic, yet immediately accessible sound. They achieve that goal in spades, over and over again.

In the spring of 2015, during college, long time friends and musical collaborators Kolby and Joshua met Zach and began to experiment with sounds that at first seemed musically disparate. After a year underground, however, a fresh sound was created alongside something even more important to the members, a shared conviction that music plays a profound role in the human experience and allows one to both discover and express oneself. Thus formed Cavern Company, the band whose mission is to have a sound that is not just heard, but felt. They aim to make music full of hope and truth that might get others through the times like the ones music has allowed them to endure.

The band’s live show is a vital expression of everything the band stands for. It is an integral piece of their relationship with their audience. Since releasing their debut E.P., Tension, in 2017, the band has been playing festivals and sold out shows in and around their stomping grounds in Oklahoma. The follow up singles, one released in each season of 2018, will be collected in a release called, “So This is Happiness,” in 2019. The band is currently performing across the Midwest and hopes to see you at their shows. ”

Verse 1:

Where do I find peace of mind,

Get alone talking to myself

Change of pace I held my tongue,

Take time to fix myself

I say what you want me to

I’m a puppet on a string only move how I’m supposed to

Put some miles on my feet, step forward light and carefree

Everytime, everytime

Everytime I back myself away

It gets so loud shut it out

Bare boned out in the open

Where are you now? Where are you now?

Start to see you as a daydream

Its all so loud breathe in and out

Step forward light and carefree

Verse 2:

Am I asking way too much,

To find if this will be enough

Cut the middle from the map

Roads they don’t work like that

I say what you want me to

I’m a puppet on a string only do what I’m told to

Put some miles on my feet, step forward light and carefree

I’ll keep on breathing for now, I’ll keep on breathing for now.

About the Song

We wanted the third single of the year to step perfectly from Summer into Fall, while still being upbeat and driving. We wrote ‘Enough?’ while discussing the anxieties that can arise in us as we pursue our dream in music, with all of the unknowns that come with it. This song helped us flesh out the source of the anxiety, as well as allowed us to express it in a way that we can relate to our listeners.

“Enough?” quickly opens up to the sounds we’re known for: wide, warm guitars, a punchy, pocket rhythm section. This time around, however, we wanted to showcase vocal range, lyrical depth and an anthemic hook in the chorus. There is a strong emphasis on melody, particularly the development of the melody from the verse through the chorus. From start to finish, we wanted to give listeners a look inside our battle with anxious feelings about the future, as we deal with the main question the song poses: “Am I asking way too much to find if this will be enough?”

So This Is Happiness

After having released our first EP, Tension, in 2017, we decided not to release an album of any kind this year. Rather, we are taking a different approach and releasing 3 or 4 singles throughout 2018 to get more music and entertainment into the hands of our listeners as quickly as possible, as that has been their number one request. Although this is not a revolutionary idea, we are intentionally doing this to see how younger bands such as ourselves can best thrive in the ever-changing music industry. Our whole year will be themed as an album would be under an idea that we have coined, “So This Is Happiness”. We will be extremely active playing shows, festivals, & touring as we continue to unfold the story with each single release to our fans and listeners.
