El Cameroon is a London based singer-songwriter originally from Elgin, Scotland.  His latest single Quiet Mind is a minimalist production featuring only a singular acoustic guitar and his soft introspective and philosophical vocals.  El Cameroon’s vocal performance carries the raspy gruff nostalgia perfect for the lyrics of Quiet Mind which you can find at the bottom of this post.  Quiet Mind’s lyrics are the focal point of the song and are introspective in a way that is both familiar and new. You can gather this from lines such as “trying to not get too attached now, cause I’ve been off that bridge before”.  While you may have heard lines about burned bridges, it is the first this listener is hearing of repeatedly being self-led off the same burnt bridge in such a poetic manner.  Another stand-out line, though this one allows us more into El Cameroon’s life specifically, is the closing of the chorus where El Cameroon laments the loss of a quiet mind to what could possibly be the crowded streets of London in juxtaposition to his quiet hometown of Elgin. Quiet Mind is for a listener who wants an authentic experience and performance from their entertainers that transcends and blurs the line between art, entertainment, and your daily experiences.

His first release, “The Obsession EP” was self-recorded & released following an extended trip through South America.Quiet Mind is his first single in three years and it is a natural come back from experiences he must’ve had on his road trip.  His first EP is also a similar minimalist arrangement common in folk music.  All previous recordings are self-recorded but “Quiet Mind” was recorded at Marketstall label/recording studios in London with producer Mark Estall.  Below the release artwork you can find lyrics to follow along while you listen.

That was bright lipstick you wore,
And that was one look more,

Than I can take with my ego,

With my fragile heart getting blown apart,

By someone new, yeah I’m a fool…

When I say I’m fine I’m fine

It’s just the lights are going down...

Gotta stop listening to myself,

Gotta stop listening to the same old lies,

There’s gotta be something more to this life,

Gotta be more than this 9 till 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9

Yes I’m fine,

Just miss my thoughts of you in my quiet, quiet mind.

Trying to not get too attached now,

Cause I’ve been off that bridge before,

Sitting there, with my confusion,

With the lines I’ve crossed turning into knots,

That come un-done,

I’ve come un-done,

Have you ever walked away and just missed some... missed someone?

One more time I’m gonna shout this,

One more time and then I’m gone,

THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL PROBLEM,

For every girl I’ve ever known,

In this world, with our feelings,

And our box-box ticks and our endless lists of what to do,

Yeah I’m a fool…

When I say I’m fine I’m fine,

It’s just the lights are going down...

Gotta stop listening to myself,

Gotta stop listening to the same old lies,

There’s gotta be something more to this life,

Gotta be more than this 9 till 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9

Yes I’m fine,

Just miss my thoughts of you in my quiet, quiet mind.
