Tasteful jazz using wonderful tensions while filling in gaps in the conversation with skillful licks. It is so good, put this group on while you have people around to create an elegant atmosphere. Around 2:30 the reeds player Rafael Statin really gets into before the dynamics are brought down ever so slightly for the piano to have a chance at improvisation. At 5:10 is the appropriate time to try and talk to the people around you, sorry about the terrible musician humor, the bass solo is solid. If you’re in town and happen to see Rob Crozier Jazz Ensemble on a matinee this group is definitely worth a listen.
“The Rob Crozier Jazz Ensemble has established itself as one of Michigan’s premiere jazz ensembles. After great reception at the 2018 Elkhart Jazz Festival (IN) and West Michigan Wine and Jazz Festival this fine group has continued to wow audiences with feature performances at the charming Mayflower Music Series in Detroit and at their regular engagements throughout Southeastern Michigan. Expect a heavy dose of hard-swinging jazz mixed with Crozier’s unique mix of funk and world music. There is a little something for everyone in this program!”
