Gina Brooklyn “Losers”, a wistful ballad for a cloudy day

A soothing production with an atmospheric quality that is sultry and slightly self-loathing is “Losers” by Gina Brooklyn.  This jazz club styled ballad is an innocent crush where the singer opens herself up to show feelings for the anonymous person she is singing for.  Maybe it is the album artwork combined with the music but it wouldn’t be ill-paced in a romantic coming of age movie.  The rim click snare and reverberated seventh chords strummed softly layer nicely to support the voice of Gina Brooklyn.  Occasionally joined by a cymbal arrangement that has a long wash and is creatively panned in the mix while a synth joins in on the left headphone.  The band does a great job not over performing on this track given its minimalistic and raw arrangement.  A touch of delay on the lead vocals at the ends of phrases helps create a sense of vulnerability.  If you’re feeling peaceful and romantic this is a great track for you.  I personally am enjoying a cup of coffee on a cloudy day while listening to this song and staring wistfully off into the distance as I’m transported far away by Gina Brooklyn.  Stream it, read the lyrics, and get a quick paragraph biography all below!

LYRICS:

I wanna get to know ya

Baby let me show ya

everything that we could be

let’s take the time to go through

all the things that could be true

about you and me

we could be

a couple of losers wasting time

to me that sounds fine

we could be

a couple of losers

I’d be yours

and you’d be mine

and you’d be mine

I think that time will tell us

no reason to rush

maybe it’ll help you see

I don’t have the best luck

but you seem to be a someone

perfect for me

we could be

a couple of losers wasting time

to me that sounds fine

we could be

a couple of losers

I’d be yours

and you’d be mine

and you’d be mind

oh, and you’d be mine

(Oh oh oh)

I’d be yours and you’d be mine
